is beautifully variegated and semi - transparent. It was found in the river Achates in Sicily from which it probably derived its English name. |

A precious stone of a deep red color, mingled with scarlet. It resembles
burning charcoal
when held up to the rays of the sun. Found in the East Indies. |

precious stone of a greyish color clouded as the modern Cornelian with blue,
yellow,
or purple. Found near Chalcedony, a town on the Bosphorous. |

precious stone of a transparent golden color mixed with green. Some identify it
with the
Topaz. |

appearance. In their natural state diamonds are covered with an earthly

JACINTH |
A precious
stone of a violet and purple color resembling the amethyst. Rev.9:17."The

red, brown and bluish-green "It represents watery crystalline brightness, a

Ex.39:12. This stone is generally supposed to be the Lyncurium of the Romans
,found in the Ceylon and parts of Europe, our Hyacinth or jacinth-of a

ONYX |
Job.28:16.Ezek.28:13. A precious stone resembling in color the human
fingernail, from whence it gets the name. The names of the tribes of Israel
in the order of their birth were engraved on two onyx stones placed upon the

PEARLS |
Matth.7:6.Rev.21:21.These beautiful gems are formed by accretion, in shell
fish of the oyster kind found chiefly in the Persian Gulf and other Eastern
waters. A small grain of sand or other extraneous substance getting inside
the shell ,is covered by the living fish with that which is of its own
nature. |

Rev.21:19. A precious stone second only to the diamond in lustre, hardness
and value. Of a beautiful midnight blue color. According to the Targum it
was the material of the tables of the law. |

Ezek.28:13,Rev.21:20. A precious stone found near
Sardis,from whence it borrow its name; of a deep-red or blood color. Some
translate it "Ruby. |

SARDONYX |
Rev.21:20. A
precious stone having the colors of the Sardius and onyx united. |

TOPAZ |
Rev.21:20.a
precious stone which has the lustre of glass, and is greenish-yellow in
